Train luggage lost: your compensation

The European legislation considers train luggage to be lost after fourteen days. You may claim compensation after this period of time:
The value of your lost train luggage is proven.  The value of your lost train luggage can not be proven. 
Your compensation will cover the value of your train luggage, but is limited to a maximum of:
  •  80 units of account (about € 92) per kilo
    OR
  •  1,200 units of account (about € 1,380) per piece of train luggage
Your compensation is limited to:
  • 20 units of account (about € 23) per kilo
    OR
  • 300 units of account (about € 345) per piece of train luggage

In these cases, the carrier must also refund the luggage transport cost and any related costs (such as customs and excise duties).

Train luggage not lost, but delayed

Your train luggage is not lost, but it is delivered late. In this case, you can claim compensation according to this table:
The value of your train luggage is proven.  The value of your train luggage can not be proven.
Your compensation will cover the value of your train luggage, but is limited to a maximum of:
  • 0.80 units of account (about € 1.01) per kilo
    OR
  • 12 units of account (about € 15.10) per piece of train luggage
Your compensation is limited to:
  • 0.14 units of account (about € 0.18) per kilo
    OR
  • 2.80 units of account (about € 3.52) per piece of train luggage

Please note: this compensation is payable for every period of 24 hours during which the train luggage is delivered late.

Your train luggage was damaged?

Has your luggage become damaged during the train journey? In this case, you can claim for compensation equivalent to the reduction in value of the item in question.
