What are you entitled to if your bus/coach journey is cancelled or delayed?

Your bus/coach is overbooked, or the journey has been cancelled or delayed by more than two hours

You have the following options:

  • to continue your journey via another route or
  • to receive a refund for your ticket and a free return journey to your departure point.

If you are not given a choice, the transport company must refund 50% of the ticket price.

It must also inform you about the expected departure time and possible alternative connections.

Your bus/coach journey of at least three hours has been cancelled or delayed by at least 90 minutes 

You are entitled to the following: 

  • snacks, meals and refreshments commensurate with the waiting time. 
  • an overnight stay in, and transport to, a hotel if necessary. This right does not apply in the event of force majeure as a result of weather conditions that jeopardize safety. Hotel costs can be limited to 80 euro per night and per passenger, and to a maximum of two nights.
